Community Templates Overview

Plottr customers have access to Community Templates, a directory of downloadable plot and character templates submitted by members of the community, available within the account portal (my.plottr.com).

In this article, you'll learn how Community Templates work, including how you can add your own templates.

Step 1: Download a Community Template

You can find and access all featured community templates within your account portal:

  1. Log into your customer account: https://my.plottr.com/login/
  2. Navigate to the Community Templates page: https://my.plottr.com/community-templates/
    1. If unable to access the page, here are the individual list of projects.

To download a community template:

  1. Click on a template within the directory to view its page
  2. Click the "Download Template" button on the page to access a Plottr file with the template

We do not recommend using the Safari browser while exploring community templates.

Step 2: Save a Community Template

Once you have downloaded a community template, you can save it within Plottr as a custom template so that you can use it in your own projects.

How to Save a Community Plot Template

Once you have downloaded a community plot template, follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the file (ending in .pltr) to open it in Plottr
  2. On the Timeline screen of the file, click the three dot button on the top right of the screen
  3. In the menu that opens, click "Save as Template", give the template a name, and click the "Save" button

That's it! Now, when you click to start a project or book from a template, or insert a plot template into an existing Timeline, you will see the saved template listed within "My Templates."

How to Save a Community Character Template

Once you have download a community character template, follow these instructions:

  1. Click on the file (ending in .pltr) to open it in Plottr
  2. On the Characters screen of the file, click the Attributes button at the top left of the screen
  3. Click "Save as Template", give the template a name, and click the "Save" button

That's it! Now, when you click to add a template to a character, you will see the saved template listed within "My Templates."

Step 3: Favorite a Community Template

You can keep track of your favorite community templates within your account:

  1. On the landing page for a community template, click the "Favorite" button at the top
  2. You can then view and edit your list of your favorite templates from here: https://my.plottr.com/community-templates/favorites/

Step 4: Share a Community Template

While only Plottr customers can download community templates, you can share their landing pages with anyone to view and learn more:

  1. From the community templates directory, click on the template you wish to share
  2. On the template's landing page, copy and share the URL, or click one of the share buttons on the left side of the screen

Step 5: Submit a Community Template

All Plottr customers can submit plot and character templates from the customer account here

On the submission form, you can indicate whether you would like it to be reviewed for inclusion in our community directory or not; if not, the template will be made available for you to share, but it will not be highlighted to Plottr customers.

After submitting a template, you can expect to wait 3 - 5 days before it is published, at which point you will receive a confirmation email.

How to Submit a Community Plot Template

When submitting a community plot template, please follow these instructions:

  1. Create a blank Plottr file and give it the name of your template
  2. Set up the Timeline section of your Plottr file with the appropriate headings, plotlines, and scene cards
  3. Visit the community template submission form in your customer account here: https://my.plottr.com/community-templates/add/
  4. When completing the form, upload your Plottr (.pltr) file in the required upload field

How to Submit a Community Character Template

When submitting a community character template, please follow these instructions:

  1. Create a blank Plottr file and give it the name of your template
  2. Add the intended Custom Attributes to the Characters section in your Plottr file
  3. Visit the community template submission form in your customer account: https://my.plottr.com/community-templates/add/
  4. When completing the form, upload your Plottr (.pltr) file in the required upload field

Step 6: Manage Your Submissions

You can manage and edit your community template submissions within the customer account here.

  1. Log into your customer account: https://my.plottr.com/login/
  2. Navigate to the Community Templates submissions page: https://my.plottr.com/community-templates/submissions/
  3. Under the "Actions" column, click "Edit" to edit the template landing page, or click "View" to access it
