Tags

Tags in Plottr are flexible tools you can use to organize the elements of your story — including themes, to-dos, special items, and just about anything else you can imagine.

Currently you can attach Tags to Scene Cards, Notes, Characters, and Places.

This article provides an overview of Tags.

Use Cases

There are many different ways to implement Tags — here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Themes (e.g. humorous, romantic, suspenseful)
  • Actions (e.g. fight scene, investigation scene)
  • To-Dos (e.g. to-do, done, 1st draft, needs edit)
  • Items (e.g. spaceship, murder weapon, diamond ring)
  • Moments (e.g. meet cute, discovery of evidence, falling action)

Creating a Tag

To create a Tag:

  1. Click the “New” button on the Tags submenu or the plus (+) button on the Tags screen
  2. Enter the name of the tag
  3. Click “Save” (or press Enter / Return) to save your tag

Editing and Deleting Tags

To edit a Tag:

  1. Click on the tag you want to edit, or hover over it and click the edit icon
  2. Update the name of the tag
  3. Click “Save” (or press Enter / Return) to save your tag

To delete a Tag:

  1. Click on the tag you want to delete, or hover over it and click the trash icon
  2. Confirm you’d like to remove the tag by clicking “Delete”

Organizing Tags with Colors

You can easily add colors to your tags for organization purposes.

To add color to a new Tag:

  1. Create a new tag (see above)
  2. Click the “Color” icon
  3. Select a color from the color library

To edit the color of a Tag:

  1. Hover over an existing tag
  2. Click the “Color” button
  3. Select a color from the color library

To remove the color from a Tag:

  1. Hover over an existing tag
  2. Click the yellow “Remove” button

The Color Library

Once you click the color picker icon to add or update a tag’s color, you will see a new interface with a color library and an input box on the top right of the screen.

There are three ways to select a color:

  1. Click on the color you want to use from the library
  2. Enter a specific color hex code in the input field and click the “Choose” button
  3. Enter a specific color name in the input field and click the “Choose” button

Using Tags

Tags are used for organizing and filtering your Scene Cards, Notes, Characters, and Places.

Scene Cards

To associate a tag with a scene card:

  1. Visit the Timeline
  2. Click the Scene Card you wish to edit
  3. Hover over the word “Tags” and click the plus (+) button that appears
  4. Select the Tag you wish to associate with the Scene Card
  5. Click “Save” to update your changes

Notes

To associate a tag with a note:

  1. Visit Notes
  2. Click on the note you wish to edit
  3. Hover over the word “Tags” and click the plus (+) button that appears
  4. Select the tag you wish to associate with the note
  5. Click “Save” to update your changes

Characters

To connect a Tag with a Character:

  1. Visit Characters
  2. Click on the character you wish to edit
  3. Hover over the word “Tags” and click the plus (+) button that appears
  4. Select the tag you wish to associate with the character
  5. Click “Save” to update your changes

Places

To connect a Tag with a Place:

  1. Visit Places
  2. Click on the character you wish to edit
  3. Hover over the word “Tags” and click the plus (+) button that appears
  4. Select the tag you wish to associate with the character
