Advanced Export

Plottr’s Advanced Export tool gives you the ability to customize your Plottr export files so you’re only exporting the information you need.

By default, Plottr will export all of your data to Word and Scrivener. This article explores how you can export only the Plottr data you want using Advanced Export.

Advanced Export to Word

To use advanced export to transfer your Plottr data to a new Microsoft Word file:

  • Click the Export button on the Timeline or Outline toolbar
  • Select Advanced

A new window appears that lets you select exactly what will export to Word or Scrivener.

The optional categories appear as individual lists that can be selected or deselected.

In using Advanced Export, you can pick from the following categories:

  • General (Title Page)
  • Outline
  • Characters
  • Places
  • Notes

The options below each category let you fine tune which of the features you’d like to export.

You can select/deselect entire categories or individual category features based on your exporting needs.

With your options selected, you can now click the green arrow to export to Microsoft Word.

Advanced Export to Scrivener

There is a slight difference between the export options for Word and those for Scrivener.

Begin by selecting Scrivener at the top right of the Advanced Export window to set your custom export options.

The optional categories appear as individual lists that can be selected or deselected.

For Scrivener, you can pick from the following categories:

  • Outline
  • Characters
  • Places
  • Notes

The options below each category let you fine tune which of the features you’d like to export, as well as where you’d like your Description to display in Scrivener.

You can select/deselect entire categories or individual category features based on your exporting needs.

Save Settings

If you’d like to save your export preferences for future exports, you can do so using our save settings toggle.

After making your export selections, there’s a toggle in the bottom left of the window giving you the option to save the settings across all projects.

When this toggle is on, the advanced options will remember your settings when exporting future projects.

Alternatively, you can turn this toggle off if you prefer to select which options to export each time.

With your options selected, you can now export to Windows or Scrivener.
