Timeline - Scene Templates

Scene Card Templates are pre-created groupings of Custom Attributes based on established techniques you can fill in to help you create compelling scenes. You can also create your own. This article covers how they work in Plottr for Desktop and Web.

Getting Started

Plottr currently includes the following Scene Card Templates:

• Proactive Scene
• Reactive Scene
• Scene Essentials

You can use as many in your file as you’d like and you can also create your own Custom Scene Templates. 

Scene Card Templates

You can apply Plott's built in scene card templates to both new and existing Scene Cards.

To create a new Scene Card from a Template:

1. Hover over the space on the Timeline where you want to add a Scene Card
2. Click the “Use Template” button
3. Click the Template you’d like to use
4. Click the “Choose" button

To apply a Template to an existing Scene Card:

1. Click on an existing Scene Card 
2. Click on the "Add Template" button within the editing pane
3. Click on the Template you'd like to use
4. Click the "Choose" button

To remove a Template from a Scene Card:

1. Click on the Scene Card you wish to edit
2. Click on the name of the Template within the editing pane
3. Click the "Remove Template" button

Custom Scene Templates

Plottr allows you to create your own custom Scene Card templates that you can reuse across your books and projects.

To create a custom Scene Card template:

1. Open the Attributes menu
2. Add one or more Custom Attributes
3. Click “Save as Template”
4. Give the template a name, description, and/or source link

To edit a custom Scene Card template:

1. Hover over the space on the Timeline where you want to add a Scene Card
2. Click the “Use Template” button
3. Click on the Template you’d like to edit under "My Templates"
4. Click the edit / pencil icon
5. Update the name, description, and/or source link
6. Click the “Save” button

To delete a custom Scene Card template:

1. Hover over the space on the Timeline where you want to add a Scene Card
2. Click the “Use Template” button
3. Click on the Template you’d like to delete under "My Templates"
4. Click the trash icon
5. When prompted, click the “Delete” button to confirm

Known Limitations

• You cannot currently add or remove attributes within an existing Custom Scene Card Template
