Timeline - Custom Attributes

On the Timeline, Custom Attributes allow you to add and track custom scene details within your Scene Cards. This article explains how they work in Plottr for Desktop and Web.

Types of Custom Attributes

There are two types of custom attributes:

  • Text Field (Default): Simple text input
  • Paragraph Field: Paragraph input with rich formatting options

Use Cases

There are many ways to use Custom Attributes with Scene Cards – here are a few to consider:

  • Goal: Identify the primary goal of the scene
  • Motivation: Identify the motivation behind the scene
  • Conflict: Identify the conflict at the heart of the scene

Adding Custom Attributes

To add a custom attribute from the Timeline toolbar:

  1. Click the "Attributes" button on the Timeline Toolbar to open the Custom Attributes menu 
  2. Type in the name of the Attribute you wish to create under "Add Attribute"
  3. Leave the field type blank for a simple text field OR toggle it to a paragraph field type
  4. Click the "Add" button

Editing Custom Attributes

To edit the name of your Scene Card custom attributes:

  1. Click the "Attributes" button on the Timeline Toolbar to open the Custom Attributes menu 
  2. Click on the name of the custom attribute you'd like to change
  3. Update the name of the attribute
  4. Click the "Close" button OR "Enter / Return" to save

Ordering Custom Attributes

Custom Attributes can be reordered to change where they appear within the Scene Card.

To change the order of custom attributes for Scene Cards:

  1. Click the "Attributes" button on the Timeline Toolbar to open the Custom Attributes menu 
  2. Click and hold the three bar icon to the left of the Attribute title 
  3. Drag and drop the Attributes to reorder them 

Deleting Custom Attributes

To delete custom attribute for Scene Cards:

  1. Click the "Attributes" button on the Timeline Toolbar to open the Custom Attributes menu 
  2. Click the "X" button next to the Attribute you wish to delete
  3. Click the "Delete" button to confirm
