Places - Overview

The Places section is where you add and organize the locations and settings in your project. This article covers the basics of Places and what you can do with them.

Places Basics

Here are a few things you should know about Places:

  • There is no limit on the number of Places you can create
  • You can add notes about each Place
  • You can create Categories for Places
  • You can create Custom Attributes for Places to track custom details
  • You can create one primary image for each Place, and add additional images to each Place within their notes
  • Places can be filtered by associated Books, Tags, and Custom Attributes, and sorted by Custom Attributes
  • Places are organized in alphabetical order by default

Getting Started

To access the Places section, open the app and click on the Places tab at the top of the screen:

At the very top of the Places tab, you'll find the following navigation options:

  • New: Click this button to create a new Place 
  • Attributes: Click this button to create and manage your Custom Attributes
  • Categories: Click this button to create and manage your Place Categories
  • Filter: Click this button for options to filter your Places
  • Sort: Click this button for options to sort your Places
  • Search: Enter a term to display Places containing that term only

Use Cases

There are many ways to implement Places — here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Major Locations: Create Places for each major setting where action takes place 
  • Birth Locations: Create Places for each of your characters' cities of birth
  • Residential Location: Create Places for each your characters' places of residence 
  • Background Locations: Create Places for locations that influence the action but aren't present
  • Nonfiction: Create Places for relevant companies or entities 
  • Screenwriting: Create Places for each scene
  • Playwriting: Create Places for each change of scenery / staging

Known Limitations

We are aware of some limitations with Places, which we intend to address with future updates:

  • You cannot create Templates for Places
  • You cannot manually organize Places
